Bald Hill
Investigation 2
History
bald Hill Barn
Bald Hill Natural Area is on the far west side of Corvallis it is 284 acres that were once part of Bald Hill Farm. The land originally was used by the Kalapuya Indians. They would farm by using fire to clear the land so that they could harvest the camas plant, which they would make into cakes to get them through the winter. In 1855 the Mary's River Band of the Kalapuya Indians signed the Dayton Treaty. Ten year before that Luke and Johnson Mulkey claimed a combined 1281 acres of land under the Donation Land Claim Act.
Johnson Mulkey was the first white settler to spend the winter in what is now Benton County. During that winter he built his family a nice house complete with running water. He accomplished this by diverting part of Oak Creek to run through the kitchen. The house stood on the edge of Bald Hill Natural Area. The Mulkey's raised sheep and cattle. They also built the first school, which the children for miles around would come to.
The investigation
With all this history is it any wonder why people go there to investigate just like P.R.E.Y. did. Our investigation was conducted on June 4, 2011 from 9pm until 1am. We broke into two investigative teams of three persons each. One team carried the ghost box, a digital recorder and camera. The other team had a digital recorder, camera and EMF meter. Our team manager Denise stayed in the Barn and conducted her own investigation with a digital recorder. Each member of P.R.E.Y. had personal experiences that night. Gladly some of them were backed up by either the digital recording, pictures or ghost box.
